Enrichment

Like the mustard seed, strong minds grow from tiny seeds

Enrichment is planting a seed in a child’s mind that grows and gives a child a better appreciation for the world around them.

The Enrichment Committee is comprised of St. Stephen parent volunteers who research programs to enrich the students of St. Stephen. Each year the committee chooses a theme and this year the theme is Making a Positive Difference.

Each month, the Enrichment Committee will send out information through the Link and the bulletin board in the hall, pertaining to the program being highlighted that month. 1Friday, October 9 Doug Scheer’s “Mystery of the Character Surprise”

9:00-10:00 Grades AMK-3
10:00-11:00 Grades 4-8 Konrad A & B
Program description- Doug Scheer shows students how making good choices will help guide them to what they want. In this fun 1 hour program, students will learn about character building that will benefit them both inside and outside of school and they will also learn how to stop bullies in their tracks.www.assemblyshows.com

Program description-Author and Calvin Professor, Gary Schmidt comes to St. Stephen to share his thoughts on his books “Wednesday Wars” and “Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy” and to discuss writing and revision.

Program description- The enrichment committee is pleased to welcome the author of the Tomato Collection, Kevin Kammerand to our school. The Poetry and Puppets program encourages imagination through a variety of interactive music, poems singing and laughter and the Idea Are Everywhere program focuses on writing and includes a presentation on poetry, idea gathering and writing and revision. www.performingArtistManagement.com

Program Description- This hands on program will allow students to get up close to real mushing sleddogs while learning about Alaskan resources and mushing gear and equipment.

6Thursday, February 11 Mad Science

2:00-3:00 Grades K-5 Gymnasium
Program description- Interactive program illustrating principles of air pressure through fun experiments using soda bottles, hot air balloons, and parachutes. The students will also earn how air pressure can be used to create cinematic special effects.www.madscience.org/kalamazoo

7Wednesday, March 10 Lights, Camera, Action

8:00-3:00 All day program Konrad
Program description- This all day event is divided into 4 assemblies and 1 workshop. All sessions will use student assistants. Students will learn how a television studio works using different digital equipment and special effects including chroma key, multiple video and audio mixing and the use of character generator.www.mobileedproductions.com
