Cub Scouts

St. Stephen's Cub Scout Pack 3217 is gearing up for a great school year, and we want every eligible boy to participate in our program.

Cub Scouts is open to boys in first through fifth grades. Any boy may join at any time it's not necessary to have entered the program at the beginning level. Our pack generally meets as a whole once a month on the first Tuesday of the month in the Family Center. Den meetings take place between Pack meetings at times set by the Den leaders.

We offer loads of fun and new experiences for the boys, including:

  • overnight camping
  • hiking
  • crafts
  • model rocket flying
  • educational trips and tours
  • marching in parades
  • community service projects
  • outings to professional sports games
  • summertime day camp (3 days)
  • summertime overnight camp (2 or 3 nights, depending on age)
  • and our most popular event the Pinewood Derby race

Some of our annual highlights include model rocket overnight camp (build & fly) at the Air Zoo in Kalamazoo, a sleepover on a WWII submarine in June, Summer Day Camp, the Whitecaps game and sleepover on the field in August, the fall campout in October, and of course, the Pinewood Derby in March.

Cub Scouting is a family- and home-centered program, founded in 1930, which helps develop ethical and decision-making skills for boys. Cub Scout programs emphasize shared leadership, learning about the community, family understanding, spiritual growth, character development, citizenship training, sportsmanship and personal fitness, respectful relationships, personal achievement, friendly service, fun and adventure, and preparation for Boy Scouts.

Cub Scouts have numerous opportunities for advancement and awards. Every Cub Scout proudly displays his badges, pins, patches and other awards on his uniform or his "brag vest." The sense of personal achievement that these awards provide is a great source of pride for the boys, and is a central part of the Cub Scouting program.
